Golden Whisk Oreo Skillet Brownie Bake
It is not sure when March 6th became the official celebration of the Oreo Cookie as a National Holiday. A quick, gooey, shareable dessert baked in one skillet
• 6 generous servings • 8 smaller dessert portions
However here is my recipe to celebrate and 2 interesting facts:
- Nabisco’s principal food scientist, Sam Procello, developed the modern Oreo cookie filling in 1912
- William A. Turnier developed the modern-day Oreo design in 1952 to include the Nabisco logo.
Ingredients
Brownie Base
- 1 box double chocolate brownie mix (Highly recommended: Ghirardelli Double Chocolate Brownie Mix for a rich, fudgy texture and deeper chocolate flavor.)
- 1 egg
- 1 (8‑ounce) plain organic applesauce
- ¼ cup water
- 8 oreo cookies 8 used roughly chopped and (2) roughly chopped for later
- ½ teaspoon espresso powder (deepens chocolate flavor without tasting like coffee)
- 1 tbsp of butter OR olive oil cooking spray
Step‑by‑Step Method
- Preheat your skillet by placing it in an oven set to 375°F . Let it sit there for at 5 minutes once it has hit the temperature.
- Prepare the brownie batter: In a medium bowl combine brownie mix, egg, applesauce, and water . Stir until smooth and combined. Chef tip: Do not overmix. Stir just until the dry mix disappears.
- Gently fold in espresso powder and chopped Oreos. Reserve 2–3 Oreo pieces to place on top.
- Carefully remove the hot skillet from the oven . ADD 1 tablespoon of butter OR if using cooking spray let 30 seconds pass before spraying and just a light mist.
- Pour batter into the greased skillet and spread evenly with a spatula. Place reserved Oreo pieces on top for visual appeal.
- Bake 18-22 minutes. Look for edges set and a soft glossy center. (if you use a cast iron skillet at home it holds heat so the brownie will continue cooking after removal)
- Let skillet rest 5 minutes before serving so the brownie sets slightly while staying gooey.
