Pierogi…..
The Only Culinary Dish that is a Dessert, Side Dish OR Main Dish
There are several theories as to who and how Pierogi originated.
This potato like dumpling has some believing its roots lie with Marco Polo as he traveled to the
New World.
Others claim it came from Asia.
All agree that credit should be given to the Polish and Ukrainians as they perfected the dough
recipe.
Here is my version of a Main Dish I call Pierogi Marries Apple Sausage!
INGREDIENTS
1 Box of Mrs. T’s Pierogis ( boiled and drained per packaged directions )
1 tbps of olive oil
1 tbps of earth balance butter
½ chopped sweet onion
3 garlic cloves chopped
3 links of apple sausage cut diagonally
¾ cup water
1 package of Isagenix bone broth
1 tbps of tapioca flour
¼ cup of non-dairy heavy cream
** chopped chives and fresh basil for garnish
STEPS
- In skillet on Medium high lightly brown your garlic and onions in butter and olive
oil that has been heated and sizzling - Add chopped sausage
- Once all the above has been cooked to a light brown-color, add water, bone broth
and tapioca flour. Stir heavy cream until well blended in skillet - Add your drained pierogis on top and cook on medium high for about 6-8 minutes
lightly tossing in pan - Serve warm and garnish with choipped chives and fresh basil
