Homemade Marinara Sauce
This recipe calls for 2 secret ingredients we used at my restaurant–Picasso’s Café. It was hit! You get to decide what those 2 are!
INGREDIENTS
1-3 tbsp of EVO ( extra virgin olive oil)
1 sweet onion finely chopped
4-6 tom med to large size vine ripened tomatoes cut into small quarter pieces
3 cloves of garlic finely chopped
2 pinches of red chili flakes
1-1/2 tbsp of seasoned salt, ground pepper and dried oregano
1 can of tomato paste ( 1 box ) **
Fresh basil chopped (2-4 stems)
1 tbsp (generous fill) of raw brown sugar
1 tbsp of nutmeg
¼ cup of red wine
DIRECTIONS
- Heat oil over a medium flame and add chopped garlic and onion. Saute until they are well coated and start to brown.
- Add tomatoes and simmer for about 5-8 minutes
- Stir in remaining ingredients and simmer for a minimum of 25 to 30 min contingent (longer is your prefer a lighter sauce)
** I like Contadina in the can OR Napoleon in the tube
